As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Body-Mind Psychotherapist, I counsel women and men who struggle with overeating, emotional eating, binge eating, night eating, and of course, weight loss. I help clients with the anxiety, depression, grief, and low sef-esteem that are so tangled in the web of the compulsive eating. I call the work “Eating with Grace” because I believe we want to make peace with ourselves, our bodies, and our compulsive eating, we want to feel good about ourselves and our lives. It is a great joy to see my clients move out of the mire of compulsive overeating, befriend their feelings and needs, take charge of their challenges, and find peaceful, sustainable ways to lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle that fits their unique being.
Counseling sessions are tailored to each client’s unique needs in a safe, supportive, confidential environment. Where appropriate, I integrate “talk” psychotherapy with experiential, body-mind work (for example, deep relaxation, meditation, guided interactive imagery, hypnosis, movement exploration, expressive arts). My professional training has included traditional and body-centered psychotherapy, clinical hypnotherapy, behavioral medicine, Reiki, energy healing, meditation, NLP, various bodywork modalities, and the arts. I’ve been a student and practitioner of Buddhist meditation since 1978, and a yoga practitioner since 1985. I integrate many different approaches in my healing work, and I practice what I teach.

M: I did it again! I came home from work and was in the refrigerator before I knew what I was doing! I hate this! I can’t hear my Inner Child, I don’t know what I need, this is too hard! I need you to tell me I’m not hopeless and give me some suggestions, HELP!!
Anya: Dear M, you are loveable and good, just as you are. Dinnertime is a hard time for grownups and for kids! Here are some ideas: can you pick ONE that is doable and just try it -- ?
listen to relaxing music or affirmations on the way home from work
come in the door and wash your face, change your clothes, and lie down for just 5 minutes and practice breathing BEFORE dealing with dinner. Find an affirmation to say as a mantra throughout the transition from work to home, such as: breathing in space, breathing out ease, or I am safe and good
Good for you for reaching out! Take Good Care, Anya
