Eating with Grace Groups:

THE BASIC GROUP

The Eating With Grace™ BASIC GROUP offers a safe and confidential space to any woman over 18 who wants to make peace with food, weight and body image issues. The group is both educational and therapeutic and has between 5 and 9 members. Women in the group gain the understanding, skills, and support they need to work through the issues that underlie troubles with eating, body image, and weight. Please note: This is not a diet or weight loss group, even though it is likely your body will change as you eat and care for yourself differently. Obsessing about losing/gaining weight is the problem; the solution is honesty, mindfulness, connecting with real support, and self-care.

The BASIC GROUP is very structured and includes

  • checking in about doable changes in your eating and self-care
  • relaxation, stress management, and body-awareness practices
  • how to work with difficult feelings and negative thoughts
  • informal talks by Anya on the week’s topic
  • cognitive behavioral approaches to working with anxiety and depression
  • reading, journaling and other “homework”
  • group discussion of readings, journaling and topics
  • laughter, kindness and learning to care for yourself
  • communication skill-building
  • giving and receiving support

To join the group, you need to schedule a one-hour psychotherapy intake session with Anya. (link here to contact Anya). We’ll go over your history with food, weight and body-image issues, other relevant history, and what you want to get out of the group, as well as complete the necessary paperwork if you want me to bill your insurance company. You’ll have a chance to meet me and talk over any questions or concerns about the group. Contact Anya for more info.

This is a 12-week educational therapy group. Commitment and confidentiality are key. At the first meeting, members discuss and approve Group Guidelines for all to follow to assure the group remains safe, respectful and confidential, and also sign a Participation and Confidentiality Agreement to commit to the group.

Fees. Groups fees are on a sliding scale. Insurance does not cover groups. PayPal, checks, money orders, and cash are accepted. If the group is full, Anya will offer one low-fee/special need slot. Contact Anya for more info.
